Hello my name is Chris Gilmore.
I retired in 2011 after 38 years of mining in the Highland Valley of British Columbia. After only three months I began looking for work. In March of 2012 I started working for Thompson Creek Metals at their Mount Milligan Mine. There I discovered how valuable my years of experience was in training people to be operators. I began to look into what I would need to learn so that I could effectively share and train. That is what led me to the Provincial Instructors Diploma Program from Vancouver Community College. The looming labour shortage, in the coming years, makes a strong case for the older experienced workers to stay available longer. Especially if they can fill the need of trainers/instructors and share the experience they have gained.
I live in Mackenzie BC with my wife, Angeline. We will be celebrating our 40th anniversary this year. We love spoiling our five grandchildren whenever we can! Mackenzie is situated in very beautiful surroundings that offers all sorts of outdoor activities. Put it on your list of places to check out, you won’t be sorry.
